Both come with a do-it-all clean base to take autonomy to the next level and offer a bunch of smart features when connected to the Roborock app. Both also have respectable cleaning performance, but the Roborock S8 Ultra excels on carpets and cleans pet hair better thanks to its dual rollers. It’s also quieter and handles stubborn stains better when in mopping mode. Meanwhile, the lower price point of the Roborock Q Revo makes it an appealing option for those on a tighter budget.

The Q Revo has higher airflow than the S8 Pro Ultra in the max setting. So even without the second roller, the Q Revo performed on par with the S8 Ultra on my hardwood floor. However, this advantage doesn’t translate to carpet cleaning since the S8 Pro’s second brush roll gave it better agitation on my carpets, collecting more debris from carpeted surfaces than the Q Revo.

Despite the lower airflow, the S8 Pro Ultra was neck and neck with the Q Revo thanks to having two rollers that rotate in opposite directions. They scored a whopping 99%, placing them in the prestigious bracket of top-performing Roborocks on my hard floor.

Cleaning carpets was where the S8 Pro Ultra and its duo brush rollers really shone. Although its airflow might be on the lower side, it outperformed expectations and secured higher scores – all thanks to the superior agitation provided by its twin rollers.

Based on my tests, the S8 Ultra was the better option for cleaning up hair (maybe) thanks to its twin roller system. There was a considerable amount of hair wrapped on the rollers of both, but they are detachable, and the all-rubber design made the subsequent detangling process straightforward.

The S8 Pro Ultra is one of the latest Roborocks and the current flagship of the brand, while the Q Revo is a downgraded model that comes at a lower price. Despite the big gap in price, they do share some characteristics, such as a round frame and a versatile all-in-one docking station. They come in two colors, including white and black, matching their respective bases.
By the way, the Q Revo’s station is taller but has a smaller horizontal footprint than what comes with the S8 Ultra. Anyway, these bulky towers act as homes for your bot and handle all the necessary functions, but finding a suitable spot in your home that can comfortably host these sizable towers isn’t an easy task.
Extractor & Side Brush
Flip these Roborocks over, and you will find one of the biggest differences between them: the main brush roller. The S8 Ultra uses a duo of rubber rollers like the iRobot S9, while the Q Revo only has one brush roll. Having two rollers on the S8 Ultra means doubling the agitation and improving cleaning performance, and this design really worked in my empirical tests. The Q Revo features a single roller, but its cleaning capabilities remain top-notch courtesy of its robust airflow.
What’s more, their rollers are made entirely of rubber, which comes with two super big pros. They are more sturdy than bristle-equipped rollers, not to mention cleaning them is a piece of cake – kill two birds with one stone, right?
The Q Revo and S8 Ultra share a 3-prong bristled side brush. All right, this is a step back, particularly for the S8 Ultra, given its price point – it’s somewhat disappointing that Roborock hasn’t furnished these premium models with a durable all-rubber side roller. The good news is that they don’t spin too fast, so they can minimize dust scatter during cleaning sessions.
Navigation
These Roborocks use LiDAR technology to draw a map of your living space and navigate. It stands for Laser Distance Sensor, which is a method for measuring distances by illuminating the target with laser light and measuring the reflection with a sensor. That way, these bots can map quickly and accurately. Another plus with this laser-based technology is that it can operate even in poorly lit spaces.
What about multi-level cleaning? Not a problem! They can draw up to four different maps and save all of them on the app. So whenever the Q Revo or S8 Ultra is placed on a different floor, it will automatically draw a new map or switch to the pre-existing map that corresponds to that floor.
Speaking of obstacle avoidance, the Q Revo is equipped with a forward-facing IR sensor called Reactive Technology. Meanwhile, the S8 Ultra uses ReactiveAI 2.0 technology – an all-laser setup. Using lasers gives the S8 Ultra more accurate identification of obstacles, which was most evident in its ability to avoid electrical wires during my tests, something the Q Revo sadly fell short of.
But if you can ignore wires, cables, or the like, you’ll be happy with the Q Revo and, of course, the S8 Ultra. Both could detect common obstacles and pet droppings, slow down, and traverse around them without getting touched. Respect, Roborock engineers!

There’s not much variance in battery life for the Q Revo and S8 Ultra. Both of these bots use a high-capacity 5200 mAh lithium-ion battery for extended run time, and the S8 Ultra lasts a bit longer, potentially because of its lower airflow levels.
And you know what? What’s interesting about these chargers isn’t how big their batteries are or how long they can run between charges. That is, they have the ability to “return, recharge, and resume” on their own. That means when their batteries get low during a cleaning session, they autonomously return to the charging dock to recharge. And once they are sufficiently charged, they can then resume cleaning from the exact point where they left off.

The control panel of both has a minimalist layout with a LiDAR cover and two buttons or three since most of the smart features are accessible through the Roborock Home app. The Q Revo has a Home button and a Power button, while the S8 Ultra also has those buttons and a third button specifically dedicated to mopping only.
App Connectivity
Both the Q Revo and S8 Ultra are compatible with the Roborock Home app, which is free to download and provides countless smart features to make everything easier. So just talk about the most helpful ones.
One of the most helpful features, to my mind, is the live map showing the robot’s location in real-time and all the areas it has cleaned. The Roborock app can show all the objects in graphics it can detect right on the live map. It also shows the map in 3D form, which works with almost all the features. Even the invisible wall and no-go zone features can be seen in the 3D map, a functionality not found in other apps.
You also have full control over the maps drawn by the Q Revo/Q Revo and displayed on the app. This includes dividing, merging, and naming rooms, so you can just send your robot to clean specific rooms instead of the whole house. Even better, you can use your voice to do that, as long as you own Alexa or Google Assistant.
Furthermore, you can set invisible walls and no-go zones. The invisible walls work like “virtual walls,” blocking the Q Revo/S8 Ultra from going past them, while no-mop zones block rectangular or square zones. Similarly, no-mop zones can be employed to prevent these hybrid robots from wetting your carpeted floors when the mopping pads are attached. The Roborock app also has another option for cleaning select zones called “Zoned Cleaning.”
There are many other things you can do via the app, such as play with vacuum and mop settings, adjust dock settings, review the previous cleaning cycles, and check on the status of the filter, main brush roller, side brush, and mopping pad.
Cleaning & Maintenance

Both feature a 0.35-liter dust bin and here is the best thing about them: Their home bases will automatically empty their dust bins every time they are full or after a cleaning cycle. These bases also serve as refilling stations for the water tanks and take care of washing and drying the mopping pads – all without requiring any human intervention.
Right, there are still some things you need to do manually, but less frequently. You will need to replace the 2.5-liter dust bag about every month or two, depending on how often you use your bot. Additionally, the 3-liter clean water tank on both bases must be filled as necessary, and the 2.5-liter dirty water tank should be emptied at the end of each cleaning cycle. Their E11 filters also need to be maintained by rinsing them under running water monthly.
I love the fact that these bulky bases are designed to self-dry the mop pads, effectively preventing any bacteria or mold from developing. However, since they use warm air for the drying process, it takes a few hours for the pads to dry fully. I am hopeful that the brilliant engineers at Roborock will consider utilizing really hot air in their next robots to make the drying process faster.

One big plus with the lower airflow is the lower noise levels, and that’s the case with the S8 Ultra. Even at maximum settings, they’re also quiet enough so you can comfortably engage in a conversation without raising your voice or straining to be heard. The point is that the emptying process at their bases is quite noisy, so they still might not be the best option for night-time usage.
Mopping Ability
Roborock has hit the market with some robots that only vacuum and others that can perform hybrid cycles, vacuuming and mopping at once. Both the Q Revo and S8 Ultra fall into the latter category, and happily, they are more effective than many other hybrid robots for two reasons.
First off, the Q Revo uses two mopping round pads that rotate in opposite directions at 200 RPM, while the S8 Ultra’s VibraRise 2.0 system features two agitating elements. That means they are definitely more effective in dealing with stubborn stains than robots that simply drag mopping pads across the floor. They easily removed sticky juice stains during my tests. For dried-on BBQ sauce, the Q Revo struggled a bit, whereas the S8 Ultra performed better, getting nearly everything out after the first pass.
Another thing I like about them is their ability to lift the mop pads when they detect carpeted areas. The S8 Pro can raise its mop plate up to 5mm, while the Q Revo can raise it up to 7mm. I’m the kind of person who wouldn’t rely solely on this feature and would still set no-mop zones on the app for assurance, but it’s undeniably a useful addition that can come in handy in various instances.
