Its high airflow, coupled with the upgraded roller’s agitation, enabled it to pick up almost all types of debris effectively.

I also put the Roborock Q7 Max on my low- and high-pile carpets, and this one still performed well with above-average scores across the board, once again, thanks to its high airflow. By the way, it can automatically increase suction power when detecting carpets.

Their bristle-less rollers were better at picking up 5-inch hair and struggled more with 10-inch strands. Unlike standard combo brushes, they didn’t allow hair to tangle easily and gave me a super hassle-free cleaning experience.

At first glance, the Q7 Max is a slim, circular-shaped robot with a LiDAR tower placed on top and a minimalist design with a few buttons, a characteristic shared with other Roborocks. The LiDAR turret adds to its overall height, giving it a larger vertical footprint than camera-based bots, but it’s generally still low enough to slide easily under the vast majority of furnishings.
Extractor & Side Brush
The Q7 Max features a single all-rubber main brush roll that has no bristles in lieu of the bristle-fitted brush, and this change makes sense. Bristle brushes on older Roborok, such as the Q5+, can be quite effective, but hair and fur tend to get tangled up in them very easily, and cleaning them is not easy at all.
However, the rubberized bristle-less brush makes untangling hair and fur a breeze – a simple hand pull is all it takes, requiring just a few seconds. They’re also more carpet-friendly since they are less prone to pulling out fibers unlike brushes with bristles.
Aside from the main rubber brush roller, the Q7 Max features a single all-rubber side brush to catch grime from edges and corners and send it into the main cleaning path. Again, this is a good point since it is more durable than its bristled counterpart.
Navigation
The Q7 Max uses LiDAR navigation technology to scan and create maps of your home accurately and rapidly. These maps are super useful and can help you program various settings and features on the app, such as no-go zones and invisible walls. This laser-based technology also works effectively in low-light diving environments, giving camera-based robots a run for their money.
This one can save up to four different floor levels and remember a map of each, allowing it to work well with a multi-story building. This multimap-saving function ensures the Q7 Max won’t have to remap every floor of your home before each cleaning cycle.

The Q7 Max uses a large 5200mAh lithium battery and has an auto-top-up function, or “Recharge and Resume.” Anyway, when its battery reaches a low level, it will autonomously halt cleaning, navigate back to its home base for recharging, and then resume cleaning from where it left off. This self-sufficient battery management allows for a worry-free user experience, eliminating the need to oversee the robot’s battery levels and recharge it manually.
Control
Manual Control
There are three standard buttons on top of the Q7’s control panel, including home, power, and spot clean. The home button sends it to its charging dock if it is in the middle of a cleaning cycle, the power button stratifies or ends a cleaning trip, and the spot clean button sends the bot to tidy a specified small zone. To access more features, you need to download the Roborock app.
App Connectivity
Like all the newer Roborocks, the Q7 has the capability to illustrate the map of your living area (captured by its LiDAR’s 360-scanning sensor) in 3D format alongside the conventional 2D representation. It is possible to add furniture, but I didn’t see any practical use for it since the robot didn’t maneuver around them. It also offers a live map to track the robot’s real-time location.
When it comes to map adjustments, you have the option to segment rooms by drawing division lines, name them by selecting from an available list, or use custom names. Additionally, it allows the setting of no-go areas, no-mop zones, or invisible boundaries to optimize cleaning. The Roborock app also has a scheduling function to automate the cleaning process, and you can set unlimited runs with multiple cleaning options, whether on weekdays or weekends, among other customization options.
What’s more, you can choose the power suction setting and monitor the health of some parts, such as the filter, brush roll, and side brush, alerting you precisely when they require substitution. You can even connect the Q7 Max to your home assistant, like Alexa or Google Assistant, to control your robot with the power of your voice rather than using the app.
Cleaning & Maintenance
The Q7 Max Plus is among the Q7 variants bundled with the clean dock while choosing the Q7 Max requires a separate purchase of the dock. So, is the clean base worth it? My short answer is definitely yes! It is the final piece of the puzzle to turn a robot vacuum into a wholly self-reliant cleaning entity.
This dock will automatically empty the Q7’s dust tank when it returns after a full cleaning cycle or the bin reaches full capacity. All the contents will be deposited in a dust bag that is significantly larger than the bin, mitigating the impact of the bin’s limited capacity. It can take two months for the bag to fill up, depending on how often you use the robot, affording you quite a long period of maintenance-free operation.
The best part is that the entire emptying process is enclosed, meaning individuals with severe allergies won’t need to worry about exposure to allergens and particles. The Q7 Max uses an E11 filter, which is washable and reusable, and the app will remind you when it needs a replacement.

The Q7 Max isn’t loud in the three lower settings, but it’s somewhat loud in the max setting and is especially annoyingly noisy when emptying itself in the clean base. To avoid the disturbance, my suggestion is to schedule cleaning when no one is home.
Mopping Ability
Have you ever seen a hybrid robot that can automatically lift the mop pad off the ground upon detecting a carpet? Roborock has something like that, but not this one. Its mopping ability is decent and not really great.
It lacks the VibraRise mop-lifting technology that allows the vacuum to pick up the mop when it senses carpets, enabling it to continue cleaning without dampening them. So you will need to carefully set “no-mop” zones before letting it run with the mop pad attached.
The Q7 Max also has no vibration element on its mop pad, like the S7 MaxV Ultra, so it is only effective for light cleanups, such as removing pet footprints. That said, you will need to bring out the real mop to tackle stubborn stains like dried BBQ sauce.
