In this comparison, we’ll look closely at the Viomi V5 Pro vs Roborock Q7 Max, which has no significant difference in terms of price. As always, they share a host of common features and some aspects that give one an edge over the other.

Both are circular robots with LiDAR technology for efficient and fast mapping. Their cleaning performance is commendable, and their companion apps provide an array of smart features for enhanced ease of use. A drawback is the absence of self-cleaning bases, necessitating manual bin emptying, and the floor-mopping feature isn’t really good. The Viomi V5 Pro wins my favor with its superior battery life and quieter operation. Meanwhile, the Roborock Q7 Max boasts the ability to memorize four maps, and its rubber roller ensures fuss-free upkeep.

Viomi V5 Pro Vs Roborock Q7 Max: Differences

The Viomi V5 Pro edges out the Roborock Q7 Max with a 4–3 score, and that isn’t all. Keep scrolling down to delve into this captivating face-off!

Cleaning Performance

Winner: Tie

Hard Floor

Viomi V5 ProRoborock Q7 Max
≈ 95%≈ 97%

Both did really well at the job of picking debris off of my hardwood floor, and that was also what most of my robovacs could do. The Q7 Max was technically better based on the scores, but the margin of difference was thin.

Carpet

Viomi V5 ProRoborock Q7 Max
Low-pile Carpet≈ 96%≈ 94%
High-pile Carpet≈ 92%≈ 95%

The V5 Pro had a higher average on my low-pile carpet, whereas the S8 Pro was better at cleaning high-pile carpet. Of course, the scores were still great and nearly identical

Hair

Viomi V5 ProRoborock Q7 Max
5-inch Strands≈ 72%≈ 87%
10-inch Strands≈ 63%≈ 61%

The Q7 Max proved to be the best option for picking up hair on both 5- and 10-inch strands. Its rubberized roller isn’t a maintenance-free system, but at least cleaning it was easier compared to the roller of the V5 Pro.

Design & Usability

Winner: Roborock Q7 Max

Dimensions & Weight

Viomi V5 ProRoborock Q7 Max
Dimensions (W x H)13.8 x 3.8 inches13.8 x 3.8 inches
Weight7.72 lbs8.38 lbs

Both the V5 Pro and Q7 have the same dimensions and look very similar to most robot vacuum cleaners. Both have a “LiDAR hat” that gives them sight and direction, so they are a bit taller than vSLAM-based robots and can’t slip under certain low-clearance furniture. They don’t come with bulky self-cleaning stations that take up a lot of space, but that means you’ll need to get your hands dirty by emptying their bins.

Extractor & Side Brush

The underside of the Viomi V5 Pro vs Roborock Q7 Max

Both have a single brush roll to pick up dust and dirt on the floor, but this is where they start to differ. The Q7 Max features an all-rubber roller, while the V5 Pro uses a spiral-bristled one. Needless to say, detangling the latter is a bit more arduous, but it comes with a hook-tipped cleaning tool to simplify the cleaning process.

They both have one side brush that doesn’t rotate too fast to disperse dust. My only gripe is that they are bristle-tipped, which, in my view, seems less robust than their all-rubber counterparts.

Navigation

Mapping and navigation are indeed the strengths of these bots because both use a LiDAR sensor on top, and the V5 Pro is even fitted with three front-facing laser sensors for those tasks. For those who don’t know, they use lasers to scan their surroundings instead of using built-in cameras, so they don’t need to visit every corner of your home to draw a map. What does that mean? They can complete the mapping process significantly more quickly and accurately, not to mention they can operate adequately without adequate lighting.

To me, a must-have feature of a top-tier robot vacuum cleaner is its capacity to save multiple maps. No one wants to spend their hard-earned money on a robot just to clean a single floor, wouldn’t you agree? While the Q7 Max can save up to four maps, the V5 Pro lacks this ability. So every time the latter lands on a new area or new floor, this will automatically overwrite the new map on the old map, which is an all-too-clear drawback.

In terms of obstacle detection and avoidance, they are underwhelming. They couldn’t spot common obstacles, including pet messes and cables, and avoid them during my tests. These bots approached obstacles cautiously, and the integrated bumpers on both ensured nobody was harmed in the entire cleaning process. That means you need a little tidying up before turning them on for cleaning, which is true of all the robot vacuum cleaners without a front-facing camera.

Battery Life

Viomi V5 ProRoborock Q7 Max
Battery Life≈ 102-219  mins≈ 91-183 mins
Charging Time≈ 235 mins≈ 198 mins

Both the V5 Pro and Q7 Max share a large battery with a capacity of up to 5200 mAh, allowing them to run for over 180 minutes in their lowest settings. If that’s not impressive enough for you, they have smart recharge and resume capabilities, ensuring no more manual interventions. When sensing a low battery, they independently find their way back to their charging stations. Post-charge, they seamlessly pick up where they left off, ensuring the job is well done.

Control

Winner: Viomi V5 Pro

Manual Control

The  Q7 Max has the standard set of control buttons on top, including clean, dock, and spot clean. There’s not much you can do with these physical buttons, but they are always there when the phone is out of reach, ready to kick-start a cleaning cycle or deal with a spill in your kitchen at the push of a button. The V5 Pro only has a power button and a home button, so you need to use the app to unlock its arsenal of smart features.

App Connectivity

Now is the time to talk about what makes these robots smarter. Yes, I’m talking about connecting them to your cell phone for control. With the Xiaomi Home app for the V5 Pro and the Roborock app for the Q7 Max, you hold the key to their smarts.

Both apps give you a variety of tools, so the V5 Pro and Q7 Max can do their day-to-day work without a lot of babysitting. These include scheduling cleaning so they can do their daily chores voluntarily or setting no-go zones/invisible walls to prevent them from doing their work in certain areas of your living space.  Is there a particular zone within your room that needs extra attention? Use the “Zoned Cleaning” feature or tap on the Q7 Max’s spot cleaning button.

After naming all the rooms, you can assign the V5 Pro/Q7 Max to clean just some rooms instead of the entire living space. Both are also compatible with Google Home and Alexa, giving you a voice-controlled cleaning solution. Just ask your voice assistant to tell the V5 Pro/Q7 Max to start cleaning or cleaning a certain room, and it’s done. You can also check out the health of important components such as the filter or main roller.

checking on the status of the filter, brush roll, etc.

One of the features that I’ve really admired about both apps is the live map, which shows the real-time location of the robot so you can find it easily instead of looking for a needle in a haystack. There is an option to show the map in 3D space, which seems to be more of a novelty than a necessity.

Cleaning & Maintenance

Winner: Tie

On the underside of the top flap, you will find a 4.7-liter dust bin on the V5 Pro and a 4.8-liter dust bin on the Q7 Max. The only problem you might have with these dust tanks is that they are quite small, and you will need to empty them manually. This process can cause allergens to spread and quickly become a huge problem for people with asthma, even if they are equipped with filters to prevent this during cleaning.

Winner: Viomi V5 Pro

Noise

Viomi V5 ProRoborock Q7 Max
Working≈ 62-69 dB≈ 59-75 dB
Self-EmptyingNoneNone

The V5 Pro is generally quieter in operation than the Q7 Max, but both are quite noisy when they are in the maximum setting. The good news is that you don’t have them at their maximum settings all the time.

Mopping Ability

Both can double as a hybrid robot, vacuuming and mopping your floor at the same time. The Viomi V5 Pro comes out of the box with 2 washable mopping pads and 5 single-use ones, allowing you to choose the one that best suits your lifestyle, while the Roborock Q7 Max comes with a washable pad.

My tests show that it only worked well with simpler messes like grape juice stains and struggled with dried-on BBQ sauce. That is understandable because this one lacks a vibration feature—a hallmark of the premium Roborock models.

What’s more, this one does not have the ability to lift the mopping pad itself when detecting carpet. So you will need to carefully designate no-mop areas on the app to safeguard your carpeted zones.

  • Dual vacuum and mopping functionality.
